The University of Sheffield

Reporting Students

The University will only be required to report those students to the immigration authorities who do not keep to the terms of their visa. If you are in the UK on a student visa, you must study full time.

You can ensure that you comply with the terms and conditions of your visa by doing the following:

1. Enrol for every year of your studies. If you are unable to enrol, you must inform the University so that we know where you are.

2. Do not take a break from your studies unless you have to. Students who withdraw or take a leave of absence will be expected to return to their home country. If you do need to withdraw or take a leave of absence you will see an Immigration Adviser beforehand. Your Immigration Adviser will tell you more about what you need to do and any action that the University will take.

3. Keep good attendance at all teaching sessions. The University will identify compulsory `contact points´ between itself as an education provider and its students. These `contact points´ are likely to be examinations or the submission of assessed work. Students who have a series of unauthorised absences from these compulsory contact points will be reported to the immigration authorities.

University regulations require you to attend regularly, complete assignments and attend examinations.

4. Always ensure that you have a valid visa for the University of Sheffield. If you need to apply for an extension to your visa you can seek help from the University’s Visa Extension Scheme.
