The University’s Immigration Responsibilities
All education providers, including The University of Sheffield, have duties under the Points Based System of immigration. We must comply by law.
Our responsibilities are to:
- take and keep copies of the passport and visa/biometric ID card for non-EEA nationals at registration and when visa details change (eg following a visa extension)
- keep your UK contact details up to date and keep a record of any changes of address
- ensure that we only register students with a visa valid for study at The University of Sheffield
- report non-registration to immigration authorities
- monitor attendance and report unauthorised absences to immigration authorities
- monitor and report to the UK Border Agency any change of status such as a leave of absence, change in course length, withdrawal or exclusion/expulsion
- notify immigration authorities of any significant changes in your circumstances, such as a change of course or successful completion of your course where this is earlier than expected
- notify immigration authorities if we are aware that you are in breach of immigration conditions
- keep a copy of your ATAS certificate if your programme of study requires one
- notify you if information about you is reported to the UK Border Agency
