If you register externally for re-sits, UKBA visa regulations say that you cannot remain in the UK to wait for your re-sit examinations. You must leave the UK as soon as possible. If you have a Tier 4 student visa, the University will inform the UK Border Agency that you will be re-sitting and have been advised to leave the UK whilst waiting for the re-sit examinations. The UK Border Agency may contact you.
You must leave the UK before your current visa expires and apply for a new visa to return for the re-sit.
If you register internally for modules in the autumn and spring semester, immigration regulations allow you to stay in the UK.
Your result is WD Final
You are no longer a student at the University of Sheffield. If you intend to study at another institution, you should contact them for immigration advice. If you will not be registering for any further study in the UK, you should make arrangements to leave the UK as soon as possible.
You have a final degree result of NA Final
You will have an opportunity to re-sit your examination(s) for which you have been not assessed in the next academic session.
There are four ways in which you may re-sit your examinations and each option will effect your immigration status in a different way:
1) Re-sit module(s) as an external student in both the autumn and spring semester.
If you do this then you must return to your home country. The autumn examination period will start in January 2012. UKBA regulations do not allow for those in the UK on a student visa to remain in the country if the gap between the start of the semester and re-sit examination exceeds 60 days. You must leave the UK before your current visa expires and apply for a new visa to return for the re-sit. If you have a Tier 4 student visa, the University will inform the UK Border Agency that you will be re-sitting and have been advised to leave the UK whilst waiting for the re-sit examinations. After re-sitting exams in the autumn examination period you will need to return home and come back to the UK for the spring examination period that will start in May 2012.
Alternatively, you can contact Registry Services to ask if the exams can be taken in your home country.
2) Re-sit module(s) as an external student in either the autumn or spring semester
If you do this then you must return to your home country. The autumn examination period will start in January 2012 and the spring examination period will start in May 2012.
Alternatively, you can contact Registry Services to ask if the exams can be taken in your home country.
3) Repeat module(s) as an internal student in both the autumn and the spring semester
The academic session will start in September 2011. Your student visa should be valid until October 2011. As you will be attending teaching sessions in both the autumn and spring semester you can apply to extend your visa for the academic year.
4) Repeat module(s) as an internal student in either the autumn or the spring semester
You can apply for a visa extension for the semester in which you will be registered as an internal student and attending teaching sessions. UKBA regulations do not allow for those in the UK on a student visa to remain in the country when not studying. You must return to your home country during the semester in which you are not attending. If you have a Tier 4 student visa, the University will inform the UK Border Agency that you will be re-sitting and have been advised to leave the UK for the semester in which you will not be attending teaching sessions.
