Living in Sheffield

Difficulties in Early Days

You are being bombarded with masses of information which you need. During your time at University, you will also be bombarded by all sorts of information and choices.

Living with the British

For newcomers to this country, the British can seem a strange and difficult nation. To be fair, any host nation can seem strange and difficult to a newcomer in any land.

Life in Sheffield

Sheffield is England's fourth-largest city, with the wealth of facilities you would expect to find in a major city - yet it's compact, friendly and accessible.

Medical Matters

Anyone ordinarily resident in the UK, i.e. here for a settled purpose, taken to mean a period of 6 months or more can use the National Health Service.

Transport

In Sheffield most students do not own or run a car, but live within a twenty-minute walk of the campus or use the very frequent and reliable bus and tram services.

Food and Drink

Many students observe dietary restrictions for religious or health reasons or because they choose not to eat animal products.

Safety and Security

Sheffield is one of the country's safest cities but it is sensible to take precautions and to avoid the type of situations in which crimes might occur.

Religious Matters

Working together as a multi-faith and ecumenical team sharing a strong commitment to provide "a high-quality pastoral service to staff and students of all faiths and none."
