Career Development Loan (CDL)
A Career Development Loan is a bank loan to help you pay for vocational learning or education.

Certificate of Student Status
In certain circumstances, students may need an official University certificate in order to prove student status. These certificates are available on request from SSiD.

Core modules
These are the compulsory modules that you must take as part of your course. This will be the core of your personal timetable.

Change of Status
A student can change their status by changing their programme of study, repeating a year, taking a leave of absence or withdrawing from the university. In order to do this they need to complete a Change of Status form available from SSiD or online.

Correspondence address
Your correspondence address is a temporary address, for example if you are staying in Sheffield during vacation periods or staying with friends but not living there permanently. If you define a correspondence address, all University correspondence will go there. It is important that you keep your university record up to date.

CiCS
Corporate Information & Computing Services (CiCS) provide all computing, telecommunications, network services and technical support in the University. They can help with all IT related enquiries about MUSE, MOLE, Webmail, virus etc.

Council Tax
Council Tax is a charge set by local authorities to help pay for certain public services, such as libraries, schools and police. It is based upon the value of the property in which you live. The level of the charge may be reduced depending upon the number of adults living in the property and their circumstances.

Course
The words ‘course’ and ‘programme’ are used interchangeably to refer to the programme of study that you undertake at the University of Sheffield. The course or programme name will thus specify both the nature of the qualification you are working towards and the field in which you are studying
