It is getting increasingly difficult to find a National Health Dentist. However, the University does recommend that you are registered with a dentist.

  1. A list of current NHS Dentists is available from Sheffield Family Health Service tel: +44 (0)114 258 8211 or from the University Health Centre web site or from NHS Direct on 0845 46 47.
  2. The Student Advice Centre has a list of NHS dentists.
  3. Taptonville House Dental Practice in Broomhill welcomes new students to Sheffield. tel: +44 (0)845 122 7787.
  4. The University Health Centre does not treat dental problems.

2. Students from some regions report that their dental care requirements change while in the UK. A change of diet and hygiene routines, increased consumption of confectionery, etc can lead to previously healthy teeth suffering decay. You are advised to register with a dentist and to have a check-up every 6 months.

3. Students can register with any dentist, providing they are accepting new patients... but check that treatment is to be provided under the National Health Service, if this is what you wish, as private treatment can be much more expensive.

4. Because of the difficulty of finding an NHS dentist and the high cost of private dental treatment we strongly advise that you have a dental check-up and any necessary treatment before leaving home.

5. NHS Dental Care It is increasingly difficult to find an NHS dentist in the UK. Most Sheffield dentists are not taking on new patients. If you are having difficulty locating a dentist go to www.nhs.uk and search for a dentist by postcode or ring NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 (for emergency dental advice).
