The Department of Music runs a number of ensembles which offer the opportunity for music students, and other students where possible, to perform regularly at a high standard. The following ensembles are all directed by staff in the department and perform twice a year as part of the University Concert Series. Additional participation in competitions and festivals are arranged throughout the year where feasible:

Membership to any of the above is by an informal audition, which usually occurs during the first week of the autumn semester. To enquire about audition times, please contact the Dept of Music during intro week (contact details below). Grade 8 standard is usually required, although we would welcome auditions from players of lower standards wherever possible. If you miss the audition times, we will endeavour to accommodate an additional audition where possible. The Department of Music is happy to help any non-music students find teachers if they wish to continue instrumental lessons, and will put people in touch with current music students if they have a particular interest in creating an ensemble of their own.
