Introduction

In line with the values that lie behind Our Commitment, the University asks its students to take full responsibility for their own learning. This means giving careful thought to the planning of chosen study programmes, attending all designated lectures, classes or supervisory sessions, performing to the best of their ability throughout each semester and achieving a balance between academic studies and other activities. In turn, the University will provide the necessary guidance and support to help students successfully complete their programme of study.
Equality of Opportunity
The University is committed to the elimination of any form of unlawful discrimination and to the promotion of equality of opportunity for all its students and keeps its procedures and policies under regular review to ensure compliance with current legislation.
Students can expect impartial guidance appropriate to their individual needs. In addition, the University and the Students' Union actively seek to promote an awareness and understanding of the specific needs of international and mature students, ensuring they receive relevant information and guidance. Both organisations will also seek to promote an awareness of, and will respond effectively and appropriately to, the additional support needs of disabled students.
Diversity of University Community
Students are expected to respect all such procedures and policies in their dealings with other students and University staff and to behave in a way which respects and takes account of the diversity of the University community and the values of truth, toleration and justice.
Tackling Harassment and Bullying
The University of Sheffield is committed to promoting the highest standards of behaviour to maintain a working, learning and social environment where everyone is treated fairly and with respect.
Allegations of harassment, bullying and victimisation will be treated seriously and the University may take disciplinary action against offenders.
Important Information on University Regulations
Above all, it is essential to read and take note of any information and guidance provided by the University. This includes the regularly updated University Regulations, which students have already undertaken to follow (by signing their registration documentation). Especially relevant are the General Regulations as to Examinations and Notes on the Use of Unfair Means in the Assessment Process which contain important information about avoiding the use of unfair means in the assessment process (for example plagiarism, collusion and submitting bought or commissioned work).
Student Feedback
The University regularly seeks feedback from its students, via surveys and evaluation of courses, so that improvements can be made to the services offered to students.
