World Mental Health Day, 10th October 2013

What’s on your mind? Student poetry competition

Do you like writing? Have you got lots of interesting thoughts to share? Well, your time has come! Enter our poetry competition to celebrate world mental health day on 10th October and you could see your work published on Storying Sheffield , Well Connected and here on the Skills for Life web pages.

We’re also offering Amazon vouchers for first and second place winners – £75 for first place and £25 for second place.

The theme of your poem can either be 'Me and my mind’ or ‘What my mind needs is…’ or 'My Mind, My Body, My Culture'
All poems will be judged by the School of English.

Closing date: 4pm, Thursday 31st October 2013.
Only one poem per entrant.
Entries should be sent by email or by post with your name, student registration number and your contact details. The poem should be added as an attachment to an email or be on a separate sheet if you are sending it by post. The poem should be no longer than one side of A4.

Health and Wellbeing Activities on Campus

As well as the poetry competition, the University is supporting world mental health day with a week of health and wellbeing activities across campus from 7 – 11 October. Full programme of events coming soon.

Poetry competition rules:
1. The competition is open to current University of Sheffield students.
2. The closing date of the competition is 31st October 2013.
3. Each entrant can only enter one poem. All entries will be considered anonymously by the judges.
4. Email entries will only be accepted with accompanying information. One email may cover multiple entries.

5. Entries will not be returned, so please keep a copy.
6. Under no circumstances can alterations be made to poems once entered.
7. If you would like confirmation that your poem has been received, please state this in your email
8. Telephone or email confirmation of receipt is not available. We are unable to confirm the content of documents submitted online, so please ensure you send the correct file.
9. The competition organisers reserve the right to change the judging panel without notice and not to award prizes if, in the judges’ opinion, such an action is justified.
10. The judges’ decision is final and neither the judges nor Poetry Society staff will enter into any correspondence.

Rules: Poems
12. All entries are judged anonymously and the poet’s name must not appear on the poem itself.
13. All poems must have a title and must not exceed one side of A4.
14. Poems must be the original work of the entrant.
15. Entries must not have been published, self-published, published on a website before the 10th of October 2013.
16. Handwritten entries cannot be accepted. Entries should be typed and printed in black ink on A4 paper.
17. Entries must be written in English.

Rules: Winners
20. Prizewinners will be notified and invited to an award ceremony at Storytelling Sheffield (To be arranged).
The winning poem will be published by Storytelling Sheffield and Skills for Life

All winners will be required to provide a photograph.
