Nursery and Childcare

Childcare provision is provided by the Union of Students.

University Nursery

The Nursery is a non-profit making establishment which was set up by the Union in 1976 to provide a subsidised facility for students, with places also being available for other parents on a commercial basis.

The Union Nursery offers full day care for the children of students of the University of Sheffield, aged 6 months to 5 years. Places are offered on a sessional basis, which can be any combination of mornings, afternoons or full days. Students' fees are subsidised according to family income.

The Nursery is open to students between 8.45am and 5.00pm. Places are allocated against admission criteria and there is likely to be a waiting list particularly for the younger age group. The Nursery provides a safe, secure and stimulating environment, which offers experiences and activities that promote the early years development of the children who attend.

Parents are welcome to visit the Nursery, which is a large Victorian house in Brunswick Street near to the University.

The Nursery is registered and inspected by Ofsted and in receipt of the Education Grant for children aged 3 and 4 years.

Advice and support are available from Sue Stew, Children's Services Manager, who can also provide advice on local childcare provision.
