The University of Sheffield
Mature Students

Welcome to The University of Sheffield, it’s great to have you here.

mature

You may be wondering what it means to be a mature student at university. There is no such thing as a typical mature student, some of you may have recently celebrated your 21st birthday, you could be returning to education after raising your family, you may be training for a new career, or you may have retired and be fulfilling a lifetime ambition. We recognise and value the diversity of our mature students and wish to support you in making the most of all of the opportunities available to you. We hope that while you are here you will enjoy your time and have a valuable experience.

These webpages are full of information, advice and tips that aim to make this initial stage of transition and your experience of the University as rewarding and enjoyable as possible. You will find information about support and other opportunities available to you. You will also find the views of current mature students who want to share their experiences and thoughts with you.

Student Transitions & Support is a team within the Student Support and Guidance section of the Student Services Department. We aim to provide proactive support and guidance to all mature students studying at the University of Sheffield.

We are here for you and we hope that you won´t hesitate to get in touch, even if you have what you feel is a small query. Look out for events and activities which are designed specifically for mature students; read our mature student newsletter and make the most of all that is available to you.

Enjoy your time and remember, keep in touch,

The Student Transitions & Support Team
