Sports And Activities
With 47 sports clubs and 280+ societies and working committees, the Union of Students offers a wealth of opportunities for you to take advantage of outside your academic studies.
All the clubs, societies and working committees are run by students for students.
Sports add the extra dimension to a healthy lifestyle, so whether it is the competitive action of a club sport from American Football to Netball or Athletics to Ultimate Frisbee, there will be a great range of sports to choose from. Or if you would like to be less committed, you could try the new gym (S10 Health) in the £6 million redeveloped Goodwin sports complex (further information available from sportsofficer@sheffield.ac.uk and www.sheffield.ac.uk/usport).
All students are also welcome at every society and working committee event, which range from circus skills to poetry, film making to orchestras and many religious, departmental and national societies. (For details, e-mail activities.officer@sheffield.ac.uk).
If you don´t want to commit to anything, or fancy a change of scene, then Give-it-a-Go could be the answer. It´s a programme of one-off sports, activities, trips, skills and volunteering opportunities that you can dip in and out of as you want. Full details are available here www.shef.ac.uk/union/get-involved/give-it-a-go/
The Activities and Sports Zone (Union, Level 3) is an area solely dedicated to providing information and inspiration for your free time including:
- how to get involved with clubs and societies
- information on local Sheffield and Peak District activities
- Give-it-a-Go programmes
- Sheffield Volunteering
- Computer multi-media centre
- Equipment hire (digital camera, camcorder, maps etc) and a team of support staff available 10.00am to 6.00pm, weekdays.
Information about all activities and sports on offer at the Students' Union can be found by calling into the Activities and Sports Zone or checking out the webpages www.shef.ac.uk/union/get-involved/
Activities and Sports Fairs are held every year in Intro Week and once again at the start of the second semester. Don't worry if you can't make these events though, you can join a club or society at any time during your studies!
