Pre-Application Immigration Information

As you will be 16 or 17 years old when you apply for your student visa you must submit a letter from your parent(s) or legal guardian in support of your visa application. This letter must be an original, in English or officially translated into English and confirm the following information:

• the relationship between your parent(s) or legal guardian and you
• that your parent(s) or legal guardian have given their consent to your student visa application
• that your parent(s) or legal guardian give their consent to your independent travel to the UK
• that your parent(s) or legal guardian give their consent to your independent living arrangements in the UK
• if your parent(s) or legal guardian have legal custody or sole responsibility for you. If so, your parent(s) or legal guardian must sign the letter. If not, the letter must confirm that each parent or legal guardian agrees to the content of the letter and each parent or legal guardian must sign the letter.

You need this letter if you will be under 18 years old when you apply for your visa, even if you will be 18 years old when you arrive in the UK.

UK Guardian

As part of your registration at the University we will be asking your parent / guardian to nominate a UK guardian.

In the event of an emergency, the University would want to contact someone quickly. In case of any difficulty in contacting your next of kin overseas, your parent / guardian will be required to nominate an English speaking UK guardian. They will need to check that the person they nominate is happy to act as guardian. The guardian role will cease once you have turned 18. The UK guardian form will be sent to your parent/guardian over the summer, so that it can be completed prior to your registration in September.
