Your study skills and support
You said that, as part of your SURE experience, you wanted less training on generic skills and more on
research-specific skills.
In SURE 2013, the training day will be solely based around introducing and developing research-related skills. Optional generic skills workshops will be offered throughout the scheme for those who wish to attend them.
You said that you would like more recognition for your SURE achievements.
The SURE 2013 Showcase in February will be the biggest yet, and will involve the first ever 'SURE Awards' which recognise and reward excellence in dissemination, as well as awards for SURE 2012 Student Researcher and Academic Supervisor of the Year.
You said that there should be more flexibility in the dates you can complete SURE, and in the year of study you can apply to SURE.
In the summer of 2013, you will be able to complete your 6 week project during an 8 week slot, allowing for holidays and other commitments you may have. You may also apply for SURE in any year of study except your first or final year. Greater flexibility will also be offered to students in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health, who do not have the same summer vacation period as other undergraduates.
You said you would like more access to research that is happening across the University.
The community events for SURE 2013 will provide more opportunities to learn about current research, for example, we’re planning a 'cafe style' research-sharing event with current PGR students.
You said that for days when you have a lot of reading or computer work to do, you would like a SURE study space.
For SURE 2013, we hope to have a dedicated area of the Information Commons where SURE participants can go and work.
