What to do in exceptional circumstances or a crisis?

In a crisis situation, ensuring your own safety and that of others is the most important thing.

Remain calm and adopt a non-threatening approach

• Be straightforward, explain that you’re going to try and help
• If the person continues to behave in a way that threatens their own safety or others contact the emergency services
• If you are on University property get a member of staff to help you do this. It may be your Hall tutor, University security, Student Support staff, or another member of staff
• Otherwise dial 999 and ask for an ambulance
