How can the University help me and my friend?

If you are worried about another student but not sure what to do, the best step is to speak to one of these contacts (see below and right). You will not necessarily have to give the student´s name. You might be referred elsewhere, but by speaking to someone will immediately be taking a step in the right direction.
- Talk to someone in SSiD or the Student Advice Centre or Student Support and Guidance
- The University’s Counselling Service can offer support and information about the kind of problems your friend may be experiencing. They can also offer practical information or links to outside organisations that you may wish to pass on to your friend or follow up for yourself.
- There is a critical support team there to support students following an incident or emergency.
If you are unsure who to contact phone ext. 24321 or from an outside line (0114 222 4321) or email student support for advice. Enquiries can be handled between 9am-5pm Monday to Friday or will be replied to as soon as possible outside these times.

You should be reassured that, when students are experiencing difficulties of any kind, there are staff in the University and the Union of Students, who not only want to help but whose job it is to do so.
