University serves up a feast at the Sheffield Food Festival
The Sheffield Food Festival rolls into the city next week (4 – 10 July) with delicious events and activities for all.
The University will be playing its part by hosting a series of events as part of the Festival programme including a food and drink quiz on Wednesday 6 July, where teams will test their culinary knowledge. You can Get Messy on Friday 8 July with a chance for the whole family to learn the art of Japanese sushi making, plus cupcake decorating with well known Sheffield cake shop Fancie. The University will also be holding a Texas themed hoedown with Texan food and line dancing on Saturday 9 July.
David McKown, Training and Development Manager at the University, said: "Accommodation and Commercial Services at the University are delighted to be involved with the Sheffield Food Festival. We have some great social events lined up and we really hope all the community will come and join us, for everything from cup cake decorating to our cowboy style hoedown!"
Dr Margo Barker, from the University’s Unit of Human Nutrition, will be taking a close look at diet advice in British women’s magazines over the past 50 years in a free public lecture. Dr Barker says: “Nutrition and food messages in British women’s magazines have been neglected research areas. It has been fascinating to chart dietary messages over a 50 year period against a backdrop of changing eating habits and public health concerns.”
The Sheffield Food Festival involves more than 100 organisations and will entice over 40,000 visitors to the city. Alongside markets, picnics, food and drink tasters, a city centre farm and garden and chef demonstrations, the festival includes workshops for children, fringe and community events. There will also be a series of educational talks and seminars entitled Festival Classroom.
