University announces changes within Professional Services

Dr Philip Harvey, Registrar and Secretary of the University, has announced changes within the organisation of Professional Services. These have been prompted by recent changes within Academic Services and agreed in consultation with the University Executive Board and relevant staff.

The new structure will become effective from June 2011 and will see Learning and Teaching Services (LeTS) become part of a newly enlarged Student Services functions, under the leadership of Dr Andrew West. Andrew is currently working with colleagues in Student Services and LeTS to ensure the effective integration of teams and their activities. A new senior appointment in LeTS will also be created and advertised.

Speaking about the changes, Andrew said: “I am very pleased that our colleagues in LeTS will soon be joining with us in a broader Student Services team. Supporting student learning has always been at the core of Student Services. The work of LeTS is at the heart of the student learning experience and the new structure will enable new opportunities to create connections and enhance services across the University”

A new senior role will be created and advertised to head up Planning and Governance services as part of the changes. The role of this individual will be to build on the developments of last year to provide a strategic planning framework that meets the ambitions and longer term development plans of the Faculties. The post holder will help co-ordinate Professional Services in supporting faculty strategies. This new post will be line managed by the Registrar, as will the Director of Research and Innovation Services.
