Professional Services set to take up a slice of the Arts Tower

Claire Kemp and her Arts Tower cakeMore than 400 university staff, students, alumni, professionals and other guests gathered in the Arts Tower to welcome the School of Architecture back to the building.

The event was marked with a cake which doubled as a 1:100 scale architectural model of the Grade 2* listed tower. The 80cm high cake was made by the Sheffield based Claire Kemp Cake Studio and contained layers of vanilla sponge separated with vanilla buttercream and strawberry preserve.

This is one of the first commissions for Claire, a former architectural researcher and designer who used to work in the Arts Tower before starting her cake making business.

In addition to the School of Architecture, Professional Services departments will soon be taking up a slice of the newly refurbished Arts Tower.

They will begin moving into the building from Monday 24 October 2011, when Student Recruitment, Admissions and International Relations will take up residence on levels one to three of the tower. This includes the individual teams of: Admissions, the International Office, International Relations Office, Recruitment Support and UK/EU Recruitment and Outreach.

The move brings together teams currently based on Palmerston Road, Northumberland Road, and some staff members from level six University House.

The Admissions Service is currently closed in preparation for the move and will reopen on Tuesday 25 October in its new home. There will also be a small amount of disruption to services provided by the other teams during this time.

Department of Finance staff based in the Brunswick Street offices and the ground floor of New Spring House will relocate to the Arts Tower from Monday 31 October. As a result there will be some disruption to finance services on Friday 28 October as teams prepare for the move.

The Department of Human Resources will remain in the Brunswick Street offices until Thursday 3 November. The department will then be closed for its move to the Arts Tower, reopening on Tuesday 8 November in its new location. Any urgent enquiries during the period of the move should be directed to the HR assistant line on 0114 222 1603 or the HR adviser line on 0114 222 1609.

Following the move all staff affected can be contacted on their existing phone numbers. Visitors should report to the new Professional Services reception on level one of the Arts Tower.
