Council agrees proposed student tuition fees

The University Council has, after considerable debate, set its proposed tuition fees for all full-time UK/EU undergraduate students at £9,000 from 2012.

The Council also agreed an improved financial support package so that the University can continue to deliver a consistently excellent education to students from all backgrounds.

The University is determined to build on its excellent track record on widening participation and, with this in mind, plans to significantly expand its financial support, outreach and retention activities to £10 million in 2012 and to £12 million by 2015 (compared to £6.7 million per annum currently).

This means that students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds will benefit from a proposed comprehensive package of financial support and outreach activities to encourage them to apply for a place at the University and make the most of their time here.

All proposals are subject to approval from the Office for Fair Access (OFFA).

The fees for international students are unaffected by this decision and are subject to the normal annual review.
