University of Sheffield Enterprise blog scoops national social media award

The University of Sheffield Enterprise (USE) has been awarded best business blog at the 2011 some comms awards.

The awards celebrate the best in UK social media by recognising those who are revolutionising the use of social media to communicate in new, exciting and innovative ways. The award for Best Business Blog is presented in recognition of a blog which has combined great content and personality to raise the profile and reputation of a business or organisation.

Updated daily by staff and students, the USE blog provides its readers with regular information, entertainment and commentary on a variety of enterprise related topics.

Samantha Deakin, Digital Editor, said: “Our blog is so important to us and we’re very proud of it. Not only does it provide students with a valuable resource for enterprising activities, funding opportunities and skill building, it also acts as a way for our interns to develop their writing and communication skills by contributing to a popular, high-traffic, website.”

The awards ceremony took place at the Manchester Hilton and was attended by over 250 people, including four USE team members who took to the stage to receive their award. Competition in the category was strong. Other shortlisted nominees included well established PR, communications and design agencies.

Sara Pates, Enterprise Business Manager, said: “I am absolutely delighted. Our blog is a truly collaborative effort that brings together the skills of our staff and our students to create something that is really amazing. And to achieve recognition at the Some Comms Awards for the hard work that they all do is fantastic.”

Launched in 2009, the USE blog has published over 300 posts by almost 50 authors. USE also uses social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn to share content and communicate with various student and academic networks.
