Staff Survey 2012

Latest news:

Dear Colleagues
We continue to make progress on understanding and sharing the findings of The University of Sheffield Staff Survey 2012.

In August 2012 I shared the top level results, and since then the University’s Executive Board (UEB) has been reflecting on these and what they mean for the University and its ambitions over the coming years. For the summary of the paper presented to UEB, please see the link on the right of this page.

Key University Findings
Key survey responses have been grouped under the following headings: Celebrate; Improve; and Investigate. I am pleased to share these with you.

Areas to Celebrate:
You told us that:
• Working here gives you a sense of pride, and that this is reflected in how you share with others your experience of being a part of the University of Sheffield;
• You enjoy the work that you do here;
• You are confident that the University is committed to its staff, students and to local communities.

Areas to Improve:
You told us that:
• You don’t always feel valued by the University for the contribution you make;
• Some of you are uncertain about the University’s strategic aims and ambitions, and how you might contribute to these.

Areas to Investigate:
You told us that:
• The University might improve efficiency by reviewing certain processes and investigating potential barriers to getting things done;
• Opportunities to further improve communication and feedback between managers and staff could be explored.

What Happens Next
We are in the process of developing an action plan for the University level findings. We also want our action plan to include local actions at Faculty and Department level. Faculties and departments have received tailored reports for their own area, and are in the process of understanding and discussing these results. Some of you will already have had an opportunity to input into discussions about the results in your own department, and you may already be helping to shape action planning within your own area. These activities will continue at a faculty and departmental level over the coming months and feed into the University action plan.

It is important that we all take the time to reflect on the results of the staff survey, to ensure that we can continue to build upon our success and take action to ensure that the University of Sheffield continues to be an excellent place for people to work and study. I will continue to report back to you as the work on planning and taking action progresses.
