The Sheffield ProfessionalThe Sheffield Professional

The aim of the Sheffield Professional is to clearly articulate what it means to be a member of professional staff working at the University of Sheffield. It also sets out the expectations of all professional staff and how in meeting these Sheffield Professionals will make an essential contribution to the success of the University.

Case StudyStudent Services

The Staff Survey uncovered some issues around career progression and training within Student Services.

Debs Fowler, Head of Outreach and UK/EU Recruitment consulted with staff on the survey results to better understand the issues, before implementing a number of action points to remedy the issues.

Actions include:

  • Coaching and Mentoring sessions arranged in conjunction with the Staff Development team
  • Career Planning and Development sessions
  • Work shadowing opportunities for staff to gain a flavour of work outside their particular role.
  • Mentoring – staff are able to request a mentor to help better understand what others do, but also for skills development.
