Where did you live? Would you recommend it?

I stayed in Union College for the whole year. It was a great way to meet people and get involved in university life. Being on campus was extremely convenient for all the facilities on campus and for my department. Being catered was a little restricting at times but on the whole I would recommend staying in a college.

Which department(s) did you study in?

Chemistry and one module in Chemical Engineering

How does the workload/classes/teaching styles vary to Sheffield?

All of the classes were considerably smaller than the ones I had experienced in Sheffield (about 30 people). The workload was pretty similar to Sheffield but the work was more essay orientated than problem based. Every module also has a sizeable portion of course work.

What did you do for fun/ at weekends / holidays?

I played in the social Frisbee leagues run by the university and in the local area.

Did you join any societies or clubs?

The University Frisbee Team

Describe the University/City/things to do

Everything you need is available on the campus which is a combination of inter-war buildings and the attractive Great Court. The city is similar in size to Manchester but feels much smaller. There are lots of things to do in and around the city (zoos, beaches etc) but the Gold Coast is also close enough for a day trip.

Could you give any advice or tips to a student preparing to go or tell them anything you wished you knew in advance?

The university runs a quota system for its internet. Whilst some quota is given free each month it is not really enough (especially if you want to use Skype) so take advantage of the semester specials offered to buy bulk quota cheaply at the start of the semester.

Would you say it is cheaper or more expensive to live than Sheffield?

Definitely more expensive (however public transport is much cheaper)
