Academic Staff

Have you considered putting forward an activity for inclusion under the Award?
There are many course related activities students can undertake which are not assessed or accredited as part of their course. There is scope for the inclusion of more `co curricula´ activities which will help students to recognise the value of becoming more involved, therefore further enhancing their skills and attributes. These activities fall under a range of different sections in the Award and will offer students more opportunities to meet the Award criteria of completing at least one activity from each of four of the six sections available.
Examples of departmental activities currently include;
- Philosophy in the City
- Departmental ‘buddy’ or mentoring programmes (Human Communication Sciences)
- Learning and teaching case studies (across all departments)
- Innocence project (Law)
- History Interviews for Theatre archives (English)
- Design portfolio (Landscape)
- Field work (non assessed - Landscape)
- Nuffield Bursary Award (u/grad scheme – Biomedical Science)
- Arkell Memorial Bursary (Mechanical Engineering)
- ‘Genesys’ - mentoring of first year students (Computer Science)
- Universities Heavy Lift Challenge (Mechanical Engineering)
- Aerospace Engineering Group Design Project
- Npower energy award (Mechanical Engineering)
- Engineering Technology Award
- Non assessed short term language courses
- Tandem mentoring (Modern Languages)
- Group design and build project for schools (Automatic Control and Systems Engineering)
- Non assessed electives (Medical School)
- Intercultural awareness with a language
- Intercultural awareness via on-line learning
The Award will consider validating any activity which is not assessed as part of a students´ course. For an activity to be considered, all you need to do is complete the Activity Proposal Form available on the right hand menu.
The form is self explanatory and should only take ten minutes or so to complete.
If you would like to discuss any ideas you may have beforehand, or work out where your proposed activity `fits´ under the Award sections, please contact:
