Private developers fund £5bn through Section 106

Researchers from the University of Sheffield’s Department of Town and Regional Planning have found that private developers are funding a large amount of additional infrastructure when building homes.

Private developers are funding up to £5 billion-worth of Section 106 agreements, according to research by the University of Sheffield.

The research, commissioned by the CLG, found nearly two-thirds of affordable homes are being provided through Section 106 agreements.

It also shows that while planning authorities continued to focus their efforts on the largest sites, they were also negotiating more contributions from smaller sites than in earlier years.
