Applications are invited from candidates with outstanding honours degrees or masters qualifications who wish to study at England's highest-rated Planning department (5a in the last RAE, 23/24 in the Teaching Quality Assessment). The Department's staff have wide-ranging research interests, and share a commitment to furthering the practice and theoretical development of planning through research and also to contributing to wider social science and political debates.

UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD PROJECT STUDENTSHIP

Community Representation and Legitimacy in Urban Regeneration: Insights from the Global North and South.

An opportunity to carry out exciting research in England and South Africa, supervised by Dr Steve Connelly and Dr Paula Meth.

ESRC STUDENTSHIPS

The department has two ESRC 1+3 quota studentships, and will also enter candidates for the ESRC 1+3 and +3 competitions. The topic of these awards is not pre-determined - for information about staff research interests and recent doctoral research in the Department, see other pages within this website by following the links to the right. (Only UK and other EU citizens are eligible for these ESRC awards.)

The awards cover UK tuition fees, an annual tax-free maintenance allowance of £12,000 (2005-6), and a generous research support grant.
