The Department of Town and Regional Planning is internationally renowed as a centre of excellence and we warmly welcome applications from international students who bring a diverse wealth of experience and knowledge to us. We have a number of international students at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Because of the high value the department places on its international students we provide a structured programme of support for your studies. This includes workshops on study skills and small-group English language teaching through all years of study.

Relocation to the UK

English Lanuguage Skills

You will have the opportunity to impove your english language skills here at the department as we are a offer a wealth of support and guidance.  Our English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) offers a wide range of English language courses and services for University students and departments, as well as the public.

However please note that applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to provide evidence of English Language proficiency at IELTS 7.0 (minimum 6.0 in each component) or equivalent. This is higher than the University's standard entrance requirement.

International Research

Our research has a strong international focus including work in Egypt, South Africa, India, Norway, France, Canada, Australia and Denmark, amongst others. International research specialists include:

The Department plays a leading role in the University's new inter-departmental Sheffield International Development Network (SIDNet). The network links together staff and students with research interests in countries of the global South from ten departments across the University, putting on seminars, co-ordinating funding bids and supporting teaching and research.

We have a strong link with the Department of Planning at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. The Department is also currently establishing a link with staff from the University of Xian, China.
