Postgraduate research at Sheffield: the Research School
A central component of the Department´s research activities is its flourishing postgraduate Research School, currently home to about forty students from sixteen countries. The School offers the higher degrees of PhD and MPhil as well as the one year MA in Planning Research & Theory.
The postgraduate research students´ topics cover an extensive range of subjects and involve empirical research across the globe.
Their research subjects include:
• conservation and the built environment
• governance and public involvement
• informal settlements
• property market development
• sustainable development
• uneven regional development
• values and professionalism in planning.

The postgraduate Research School is based in a dedicated suite of offices in the University´s Dainton Building, close to the main Department offices. Students are provided with office and computing facilities, in a dynamic and supportive research environment.
