Impacts of Rural Growth Centres on Poor Households in North Kedah, Malaysia
The purpose of this study was to find out factors hindering poor households from the benefits contributed by rural growth centres in the north Kedah. The proposal focused on a group of poor households in three selected rural growth centres in Kubang Pasu district, Kedah. To understand how and why the present development pattern has emerged in the Third World and in Peninsular Malaysia, the literature review starts with exploring the meanings of development in general, and then focuses on development process in the Third World and in Peninsular Malaysia. This also includes the influence of colonial governments on the pattern of developments in the Third World and in Peninsular Malaysia. The last part of the literature review focuses on development pattern in Kedah and in the selected research areas. Methods for acquiring data and information for the research findings are qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Both methods are important in order to provide comprehensive data and information that can provide accurate answer to the research question. Discussion on methodologies describes a process and an outline of the plan of the research. It also includes the conceptual framework from which the main hypotheses of the research have been developed. Finally it explains the methods of data collection and how the data will be analyzed.
