Melanie Lombard

Following the successful completion of my PhD, entitled `Making a place in the city: Place-making in urban informal settlements in Mexico´, I have taken up a one-year contract at the University of Manchester´s Global Urban Research Centre, as Lecturer in Urban Development. As well as teaching on postgraduate courses offered by the Centre, I plan to extend my research interest in marginalising discourses to the area of urban violence. More specifically, in the next year I hope to submit a post-doctoral funding application for research on discourses of urban violence in Latin American cities in the context of globalisation, and the effects these have on the production of urban space.
