Your Union

When you become a Sheffield student you automatically become a member of what is generally held to be the best Union of Students in the UK.

The Union is at the heart of the campus. Its shops, cafés and bars, are open seven days a week, from breakfast into the night.

This hub of facilities and services, central to your life as a Sheffield student, was rated best in the country in the 2010 Times Higher Education Student Experience survey.

It also won Best Union in the NUS Awards 2008 and Best Union in the Club Mirror Awards in both 2007 and 2004. In the 2008 Virgin Alternative Guide it is rated 'Excellent'.

The building is undergoing a £5-million rebuild, which will substantially improve the services, activities, representation and support the Students' Union provides to its members.

Here are just a few of the reasons to visit:

Bars, clubs and gigs

Whatever your tastes, there is bound to be something for you to do at the Union every night of the week.

From the revered retro club night of Pop Tarts, to the acclaimed hip hop of The Tuesday Club, the Union comes to life every night.

There is always something going on in Bar One, the largest and liveliest bar on campus.

The Interval café bar has a more relaxed atmosphere, and delicious food, while Coffee Revolution serves organic and Fairtrade coffee.

Fuzz Club showcases live music from up-and-coming indie talent, while The Foundry regularly presents big-name bands.

Getting involved

The range of events is so vast that the Give it a Go scheme - offering students the chance to try out new activities without making a major commitment - has proved very popular.

Run by you for you

The Union is run by students for students, giving every individual the chance to contribute and make things happen.

At the Union you get back what you put in. Even the profits from the bars pay for advice and welfare services, ensuring that your Union continues to go from strength to strength.
