RSS Feeds

What are RSS feeds?

RSS feeds are a really simple way for you to find out when a site has new content, without you having to check the website manually. New content is displayed right on your desktop so you can decide what you want to read and when.

How do I receive Union RSS feeds?

  • If you use Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 (or above)
    • Simply click on the orange icon next to the feed you wish to subscribe to and select how you want to view the feed. Choosing ‘Live Bookmarks’ will mean that the constantly updated feed will appear in a dropdown menu in the top bar of your browser.
  • If you use an earlier browser

What will I receive?

You can choose to subscribe to the latest Union news and headlines, uforum posts, daily listings, and more by selecting from the list above. Don’t worry about receiving a load of useless info – you can choose what headlines to read and what links to follow to find out more.

Alternative ways to read / display

  • If you have your own iGoogle homepage you can add feeds to your page
  • You can also add RSS reader applications to your Facebook page – ‘Simple RSS’ is a good example. Just add your preferred application and paste the URL of the Union feed (http://www.shef.ac.uk/union/news/unionnews.xml) into the correct box when prompted.

Got any suggestions of Union feeds you'd like to see? Email vicky.lawson@shef.ac.uk with your ideas.
