Research of the Future

Nurturing our outstanding research ideas

Monday 1 (12:00 onwards) and Tuesday 2 July 2013 (8:30-13:00)
Millennium Galleries & Leopold Hotel, Sheffield

Get involved and join us at this exciting event which is part of the 2022 Futures initiative.

This is a forum for collective thinking and challenging debate about which research areas the University will be internationally recognised for by the year 2022. The output will be a list of emerging research themes and projects for further consideration during 2013/14. Attendees will include both researchers and our non-academic partners including high profile representatives from the commercial sector and governmental bodies. David Bott (Director of Innovation Programmes at the Technology Strategy Board) is confirmed as a speaker and we are working with KnowInnovation to develop a stimulating and inspiring agenda that moves beyond the conventional workshop forms of activity.

Those who participate will have the opportunity to receive one of the following:

  • A £20,000 Proof of Concept grant
  • An interdisciplinary PhD student network award, which will provide stipends and consumables budgets for 3 students
  • A £5,000 ideas generation support fund to kick start novel collaborations or feasibility studies

Those eligible to apply include all research active staff and some places have been reserved for post doctoral researchers. Applications are welcome from all 5 faculties on campus and those working at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre. Successful applicants will be expected to attend both the afternoon session of the 1 July, the evening meal and the morning session on 2 July.
