Cleaning & laundry

It’s important for you and your flatmates to keep your accommodation clean and tidy.

Keeping it clean!

Clean before you leaveYou are all responsible for keeping your bedrooms clean and tidy throughout the year. You're also jointly responsible for keeping shared areas clean and tidy and should work with your flatmates to make sure that kitchens and corridors are kept in an acceptable condition.

Top tips for keeping your accommodation spick and span:

  • Keep the inside of the fridge clean: remove old food and wipe the shelves regularly
  • Make sure food doesn't get stuck to the bottom of the oven or toaster – it’s a fire risk
  • Clean the microwave inside and out
  • Take out the rubbish and recycling regularly
  • Wipe down work surfaces, hob and cooker, especially if food is spilled.
  • Sweep and mop floors
  • Vacuum carpeted areas
  • Wash your shower curtain occasionally - it can go in the washing machine and be hung back up to dry

Still not sure? Your Resident Mentor is on hand to offer advice if you need it. For example, they can help to establish a ‘flat agreement’ for things like cleaning rotas. For more information, click here.
