Aerospace Engineering with Private Pilot Instruction (PPI)
Ground and Flight Training
This course follows the same syllabus as the standard Aerospace Engineering BEng and MEng courses. However, in the second semester of year 2, you will study the Ground Flight Training module (AER299), instead of MEC209 (Aeromechanics stream) or AER223 (Avionics stream). This specially designed flying module is run in collaboration with Yorkshire Aero Club and includes ground training for flight and five hours of flying time.
Individual arrangements can be made with the flying provider to continue to gain a UK or European Private Pilots Licence, by completing further flying hours.
Here's everything you need to know about the PPI course: Information for Students 2018-19 (this will be updated for 19-20 before the start of semester 2 but will not differ greatly)
And here's a link to the Yorkshire Aero Club presentation to students
If you have any questions about the PPI course, please email Course Support Officer, Sarah Power.
There is an additional one-off cost of £899 for the PPI course which you will be required to pay via the University's Online Store. When you make the payment, you will also be required to agree to these Terms and Conditions.
In 2019-20 we are restricting the PPI course to 30 students. Any student currently registered on the PPI course will have until Monday 9 December to make their payment. After that date, any other Aerospace Engineering student will have the opportunity to make the payment and transfer onto the PPI course.
