Boeing Scholarship and Support Scheme

There are 4 new Boeing Scholarships each worth £3,300 available exclusively for prospective postgraduates of Aerospace Engineering starting in September 2019.

These awards are entirely funded by our industry partner, Boeing, as a way of enabling students to succeed in the field of aerospace.

In order to apply for the scholarship you need to meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:


  • You have been in care as a looked-after child for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14.
  • You have a disability.
  • You are a carer for an ill or disabled family member.
  • You are a woman applying for a postgraduate taught course in the Department of Aerospace Engineering
  • You were/are in receipt of a Maintenance Grant as an undergraduate (if you started your undergraduate course after August 2016 you will need to provide evidence from the Student Loans Company to confirm your household income was assessed as £40,000 or less).
  • You are from a black and minority ethnic group.
  • You come from one of the most deprived areas of the country as defined by the government's IMD (Indices of Multiple Deprivation) database. If your postcode IMD value is 16,250 or less, you meet this criteria. Please note this information only covers addresses in England.
  • You come from an area where it is unusual for people to go to university. This is defined by the government's classification called Polar 3, to meet this criteria your address must fall into quintile 1 or 2 in the young participation quintile or the Adult HE qualification quintile. Please note this information only covers addresses in the UK.

Please note that you may be required to provide evidence depending on which criteria you meet. Further information on what evidence you may need to provide is included on the application form.

Selection process:

A selection panel consisting of senior academic and professional services staff will consider your scholarship application. When making their decision, the panel member will give regard to the following:

  • Has the applicant provided a clear rationale for applying for an Aerospace Engineering undergraduate course at the University of Sheffield?
  • Has the applicant identified clearly how the scholarship will be beneficial to their student experience?
  • Has the applicant clearly articulated future ambitions? These goals relate to the undergraduate course they have applied for, and they involve appropriate and credible contribution from which others will benefit.
  • Has the applicant clearly demonstrated leadership and/or communication skills?
  • Has the applicant had to overcome exceptional circumstances?

Further Information:

  • Scholarships will be paid directly into your bank account in 2 instalments of £1650 over the academic year.
  • If you withdraw from the University part of all of the scholarship may be repayable.
  • If you take a period of leave of absence your scholarship may be suspended.

Tuition fees

You don't have to pay anything upfront and you don't start repaying your loan until you're earning over £21,000 per year. Loans are available to cover tuition fees and living costs.
