My research focuses on the investigation of neutral lipid produced from Synechocystis PCC6803 and new Scenedesmus sp. Isolated from Weston Park Pond in Sheffield (UK).
It is obvious that microalgae represent one of the promising source of biofuel production and especially biodiesel and the neutral lipid (mainly in the form of Triacylglycerol TAG) is the main precursor of biodiesel which is accumulated in high amount from microalgae under stress conditions.
In my project I try to compare between several of methods to evaluate the neutral lipid in both strains using conventional method and new method (Nile Red dye) under normal and stress conditions. I have used High salinity and N starvation as a stress conditions to enhance both strains to produce high level of neutral lipid
I tried to do random mutation in Scenedesmus sp. using mutagens such as UV and some chemical mutagens to increase the neutral lipid production and identify the mutant strains with high lipid content using Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) in combination with Nile Red fluorescence dye

I finished my MSc. at the University of Baghdad, Iraq in 2004. In 2005 I became a lecturer in Department of Biology, College of Science, University of Basrah. I started my PhD in January 2014 at the Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Department.
