Conference celebrating 30 years of Criminology at Sheffield – September 2006

Did you study for an MA or PhD in Criminology at the University of Sheffield between 1976 and 2006?

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Criminology at the University of Sheffield.

The inauguration of the Centre for Criminological and Socio-Legal Studies, as it then was, was in September 1976, when Nils Christie gave his famous address, subsequently published in the BJC: 'Conflicts as property'.

The Centre for Criminological Research would like to celebrate this 30th anniversary by inviting all those associated with criminology at Sheffield, as well as people from other criminology centres in the UK, to a conference at Sheffield. It will be held on 11-12 September 2006. Professor Nils Christie is able to be with us at the conference and Professor David Garland has agreed to come to give an opening paper.

There has been a really positive response from many people who were formerly at Sheffield and it’s going to be a great event. If this applies to you and you would like to be formally invited to this conference, please contact Lisa Burns:
