Abseil down Sorby!

Sorby Hall

Alumni of the University of Sheffield are being given the opportunity to abseil down Sorby Hall of Residence before its demolition in the summer of 2006, and all in the name of charity!

The University’s Accommodation and Campus Services department is holding the sponsored charity abseil at Sorby Hall of Residence at 10.00am on Saturday 1 April 2006. This will be a landmark event at the University and the money raised as part of the abseil challenge will go towards two nominated charities - Weston Park Teenage Cancer Trust Unit and Edale Mountain Rescue Team.

The Hall is scheduled for demolition in the summer of 2006 to make way for brand new accommodation as part of the Student Residences Project.

A limited number of places are available. Alumni who wish to take part in the challenge are being asked to make a pledge of the amount of money they expect to raise. Those with the biggest pledges could then be in with a chance of abseiling down Sorby Hall!

Previous experience of abseiling is not necessary as the event is being supervised by trained instructors but a head for heights would certainly be a pre-requisite!

To enter please send an email to the event co-ordinator, Doug Kerr at Accommodation and Campus Services (d.kerr@sheffield.ac.uk) with your pledge amount. Mark the subject field of your email with 'Alumni Abseil Application'.

The successful alumni applicants are expected to raise a minimum of £100 for the nominated charities.

The entries will be then be judged by the Registrar and the Head of Accommodation and Campus Services, with places being awarded to the best five entries.

The closing date for applications from alumni is Friday 24 February 2006. Please note applications will not be acknowledged but the successful applicants will be notified as soon as possible.
