University staff member conquers local Dragons Den

One of the University’s Development and Alumni Relations team last week put his fundraising skills to great use, winning £50 for the Information Commons in a Sheffield version of the hit BBC2 series Dragons Den.

David Meadows, who manages the Alumni Fund’s team of student telephone fundraisers, made a winning pitch to three local Dragons in front of an audience of around 50. His pitch was for £50 to sponsor some new management textbooks for the Information Commons.

The initial finalist was decided by the audience and, having won that vote, it was down to the Dragons to decide whether or not to invest in David’s project. They were very impressed with his pitch and eventually handed him the £50 cash.

David said, “I’d only intended going to the event as a member of the audience, but after watching some of the other pitches, I thought that I might as well have a go too – and I’m very pleased I did! It was really good fun, especially as I got to put my fundraising skills into more practice.”

The Dragons Den event is an annual event which is jointly organised by IMPRESA (Sheffield University Student Enterprise Society) and Engage (Hallam Student Enterprise Society).
