Development and Alumni Relations Office join students for Just Do It! Campaign
The Development and Alumni Relations Office gave something back to the Sheffield community on Saturday 10 March as part of Sheffield Volunteering’s annual Just Do It! Campaign. It was the first time staff from the University had joined students for the event.
Over 160 staff and students took part in numerous projects over the weekend, making it the biggest event yet.
The Office spent the day creating a community orchard at High Hazel Park in Darnall, as part of the Darnall Green Spaces Project. The green fingered team soon got into the swing of things. With spades aloft and a mission to plant trees, the digging quickly commenced. By the end of the day over 100 trees had been planted, which included British varieties of apple, plum and blackberry.
Miles Stevenson, Director of Development, said, “We have always admired the enthusiasm and commitment of student volunteers and were keen to get involved with volunteering. The Just Do It! Weekend was the perfect opportunity for us to volunteer and make a positive contribution in the local community.”
The office looks forward to returning to High Hazel Park over the coming years and hopes that the Darnall community will soon be enjoying the fruits of their labours!
