Sheffield needs your votes – deadline 30 May 08!

A new competition launched today by Arts Council England gives you the chance to choose Sheffield as the nation’s Most Musical City.

Sheffield has been short-listed along with nine other cities from across the country by the Arts Council’s Take it Away scheme, which makes musicianship accessible and affordable for all. Celebrity ambassadors for each city, including Sting, Jamelia and Sheffield's Richard Hawley, lead the debate for the Most Musical City until voting closes on 30 May 2008. The winning city will be announced in June.

Sheffield is up against Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Colchester, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Newcastle. People can register their support on the website link below and vote for their Most Musical City.

Unsigned bands and solo artists can register online for the chance to represent their Most Musical City and play in front of 5,000 festival-goers at this year’s End of the Road Festival in Dorset. There are 25 pairs of tickets to the festival up for grabs for anyone who registers their vote.

We believe Sheffield, with its rich and diverse musical history, deserves to win, so please help by voting for your University city today!
