Sheffield graduate Professor Paul L Knox receives award

Geography alumnus Paul Knox, now a senior fellow and Distinguished Professor of Urban Affairs and Planning at Virginia Tech in the United States, has received the Distinguished Scholarship Honours of the Association of American Geographers for 2008.

Paul received this honour in recognition of his extensive, internationally acclaimed record of research publications on globalisation, urban social systems and land use planning. A citation accompanying his award, states: "Professor Knox has mentored numerous young scholars in these areas and has strengthened important, long-lasting, cross-disciplinary relationships among geographers, landscape architects, urban planners, and architects while pursuing his research interests."

He was honoured at the Association of American Geographers annual meeting in April 2008 in Boston. The Association of American Geographers is a non-profit scientific and educational society contributing to the advancement of geography. Its members from more than 60 countries share interests in the theory, methods and practice of geography.

Paul completed both his undergraduate degree and PhD in Geography at the University of Sheffield.
