Six of the eight Psychology Honours graduates who started their course in 1958, when Dr Peter McKellar headed the fledgling department, met for a reunion lunch at the National Liberal Club on 30th April 2008.

Christopher Knapper, who flew over from Canada for the occasion, arranged the lunch at his Club which proved an appropriate grand setting for the celebration.

Chris and James Hartley both pursued academic careers at various universities in Canada and the UK. Chris was latterly Professor at Queens University in Ontario and Jim is Research Professor at Keele University after many years as lecturer and Professor of Psychology there.

Kneale Grainger and Myrtle Bennett (nee Wright) went into the teaching profession and Kneale is still teaching special needs and Myrtle was for a while Headmistress at a preparatory school. Dave Mabbs and Irene Shaw worked in industry and market research.

They all had a most enjoyable reunion recalling happy times spent in Sheffield and in the department in the aptly named Mushroom Lane! Various adventures and misadventures were remembered. They were lucky to have had enthusiastic and inspiring teachers. They have met several times over the years both in Sheffield and London and earlier reunions were also attended by some members of staff. The group plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their graduation in 2011.
