Sheffield Alumni footballers enjoy the April sunshine

Sporty graduates from the University of Sheffield donned their football boots and showed off their skills on the pitch this weekend (Saturday 9 April 2011), as part of a special alumni six-a-side and five-a-side football tournament.

Altogether 18 teams took to the pitch in the six-a-side tournament, featuring former students from all over the country, including London, Ireland and Scotland, before team ‘Highnam’ were declared the ultimate winners following a 1-0 victory against ‘Mates’.

Another 6 teams battled out the 5 a-side tournament with ‘Crookes Valley’the eventual winners, scoring with the last kick of the game against ‘Notty House’.

The winning team members were given the coveted alumni football tournament trophy and a medal at a presentation ceremony in Bar One.

David Meadows, Development Officer in the Alumni Relations Office at the University of Sheffield, said: “It was a fantastic atmosphere on the day and it was great to see so many alumni enjoying themselves back at the Goodwin Sports Pitches. Intra Mural plays a very important role in many student lives and it is important that alumni get the chance to rekindle those memories.”
