The itinerary for the Big Walk 2017

The 2017 Big Walk took place in June in aid of the Sheffield Scanner, the University's £2 million fundraising campaign to bring a ground-breaking MRI-PET facility to Sheffield, the first such facility in Yorkshire.

With your help The Big Walk 2017 has raised over £98,000 towards the £2 million target. Participants – staff, alumni, students and friends of the University – walked as far as they could along a circular 50-mile route in 24 hours, from 7am on Friday 30 June to 7am on Saturday 1 July 2017.

On the day 272 people took part in the walk, and 118 went on to complete the full 50 miles in the 24-hour period. In addition, 25 speedy participants even managed to run the route, with the first finishers completing the route in around 10 hours!

As well as all the participants the event was made possible thanks to the 51 volunteers we had who came from all across the University of Sheffield. Without their help and cheery greetings at marshalling points the event couldn’t have taken place, and wouldn’t have been anywhere near as enjoyable.
