The Dr Ian Noble Memorial Fund
Dr Ian Noble graduated in Medicine from the University of Sheffield in 2009, and died tragically in a road accident in October 2010. By this time his contributions to medicine had already been considerable, and in celebration of his life his family and partner have established the Dr Ian Noble Memorial Fund. This fund will provide support for medical students at the University of Sheffield who are unable to find the funding to undertake an intercalated degree in the University. Ian had undertaken such a degree, and recognised the great impact that it had made on his own education and subsequent career.
Ian led the BMA Students´ Committee and sat as the medical student representative on the Medical Schools´ Council. He was appointed to an Academic Foundation Training post at King´s in London and was destined for high places in medicine, especially in the political arena.
BMA Council Chairman, Hamish Meldrum, said: "The whole of the BMA was absolutely devastated by this tragic news. Ian was such a bright, intelligent engaging young man, with a maturity and wisdom beyond his years. He had already given a lot, but he had so much more to offer."
Professor Nigel Bax, from the University of Sheffield, said: "Donations to the Dr Ian Noble Memorial Fund will help other students who, as well as having high academic ability, share the commitment and determination that was so much part of Ian´s persona. The fund, and those it supports, will provide a lasting tribute to a much-missed young man who made such a tremendous contribution to medicine during his life."
