Landmark 7000th Donation for University
Martin Fry, legendary frontman of 80's pop group ABC, may have ditched his gold suit these days, but he helped the University reach a new golden landmark when he attended the recent alumni reunion weekend.
Radical makeover to revamp Union of Students
An exciting £5million renovation project to transform the University of Sheffield's Union of Students' building began in November this year.
Students give away over £117,000 to charity
Students from the University of Sheffield were joined by Councillor Paul Scriven to hand over a total of £117,000 to a number of local charities.
The Jack Reacher Scholars: A family affair
We were delighted to welcome the author Andrew Grant (BA 1989) back to the University this month, to attend a reception for the Jack Reacher Scholars.
Students face the gavel in new moot court
Law students at the University swapped the lecture theatre for the courtroom following the official opening of a new Moot Court on Wednesday 18 November 2009.
$50,000 boost to glaucoma research and diagnosis
Researchers at the University of Sheffield Medical School have been given the opportunity to research new and improved diagnostic techniques for patients developing glaucoma. Thanks to a donation of $50,000, the Sheffield team will use new high resolution imaging equipment to evaluate new and discomfort-free ways to make a reliable diagnosis.

Sheffield graduate wins prestigious literary prize
A graduate from the University of Sheffield has been awarded the prestigious Man Booker Prize. Hilary Mantel CBE, who graduated with a degree in Law from the University in 1973, was granted the prize of £50,000 at a ceremony at the London Guildhall on Tuesday 6 October 2009. She faced competition from five other authors on the shortlist.
University Professor Talks to Parliamentary Committee on Climate Change
Professor Shaun Quegan from the Centre for Terrestrial Carbon Dynamics (CTCD) was invited to the House of Commons in October. He was there to talk to MPs about the use of satellite applications to reach climate change objectives.
Ray of light for Chemistry students
One of the University of Sheffield's most loyal staff members was honoured on Monday 16 November 2009, when the Department of Chemistry officially opened a suite of rooms named after him.
The Bob Boucher Scholarships Fund
In this year's edition of Your University, we launched a campaign to raise funds for student scholarships, in memory of our former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bob Boucher, CBE, who very sadly and suddenly passed away in May.
