1955 and 1965 Reunion Luncheon - 20 June 2015
We were delighted to welcome 180 alumni and friends back to campus for this special anniversary event, with guests travelling from as far away as Singapore and the USA to join in the celebrations.
After welcome drinks in the Quad, Firth Court, alumni guests were invited to gather with classmates for a memorable photo of their year group.
A sit-down luncheon was then served in Firth Hall, hosted by The Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Keith Burnett. Sir Keith welcomed alumni to the reunion and gave an update on the University’s recent achievements. It was then the turn of special guest speaker, 1955 alumnus and Chancellor, Sir Peter Middleton, who shared his stories of being a student in Sheffield in the 50’s and the comparisons of what the city was like then and now.
The speeches concluded with a presentation from Miles Stevenson, Director of Alumni & Donor Relations, who narrated archive video footage of the University from years gone by.
Following lunch, alumni took tours of the campus and Information Commons, giving them an opportunity to see the huge changes that have taken since they studied here between fifty and sixty years ago.
The day ended with refreshments in the Interval Café within the original Students’ Union Graves building. Many alumni commented on the happy memories they had relived during the day, meeting up with old friends and sharing their nostalgia back in the place many of them had met.
In 2016, the University will be hosting a reunion luncheon for the Classes of 1956 and 1966 on Saturday 18 June 2016 to celebrate their 50 and 60 years since graduating. Please see the reunion webpage for more information.
